Joy and meaning

Joy and meaning. That’s it. No more, no less.

If we can approach each day with an openness to joy and a sense of meaning, we’re living life in a way that is in alignment with the best and most nourishing human values.

Over time, that adds up to a life well lived.

Neither is easy.

Often, in an inexplicable way, we don’t get much joy in seeing the joy of others (especially if we are not close to them).

Often, things seem futile, so meaning is hard to find.

But neither is especially difficult either.

Both can be consciously cultivated with small choices day by day.

Both originate from within our own mind, and no place else.

The meaning of life is the biggest question.

Maybe, to add to Viktor Frankl’s quote, the meaning of life is to bring joy and meaning to our life.
